Welcome to the MammaHen.org website created especially to help homeless people stay a little bit warmer. Like the Home page stated, I am trying to do my part to help the homeless people, by crocheting scarves. I cannot help the homeless people by donating money, since I am on total disability and have numerous medical expenses for supplies due to my personal medical problems.
This is where it may get interesting, especially if you like helping the less fortunate. Granted, crocheting scarves may seem very trivial to some people, but to others, It may make a world of difference. I have always been taught that it is in giving that we are blessed. This is true, because when you are involved in helping others, you are not thinking only about yourself and your own problems, and everybody has them of some sort or another. Granted some people have problems far more serious that other people, but to each individual person, their own problems are the worst in the world.
When thinking that our own problems are worse than another person’s problems are, always be mindful that your problems could always be worse. I have quite often heard the saying that goes, “But for the grace of God, there go I.” I don’t know if it is actually in the bible or not, but it does make you stop and think. The example that has usually gone along with it was about a man that was fussing about not having any shoes to wear and his feet getting messed up by broken glass, gravel and such. As he was feeling sorry for himself and talking to another person, they happened to look across the street. When they did, they noticed a man in a wheelchair that didn’t have any feet. At that point the saying was recited to the man that was fussing. The other man with him pointed out that “But for the grace of God…” the man without any feet could just as easily be the one that was fussing. Needless to say the man that had been fussing felt really guilty about having fussed about not having any shoes, when at least he did have feet.
I dare say that most homeless people are not that way because they want to be. They are that was because of various reasons anywhere from losing their job due to downsizing to becoming ill and not being able to work anymore. I cannot imagine anybody waking up one morning any saying, “From now on I want to be homeless and have to go to food kitchens to get my meals and depend on the goodness of others for all of my needs.” I don’t ask the people why they are homeless, I only try to help them in whatever way I can. There have been times when I came back home and gathered up what little bit of food I could do without so that they could have a little something to eat. Most were very thankful, but some just turned up their nose at the small bag of food that I handed them. All I know is that I tried my best to help them.
Trying my best to help in a small way is what I am doing now by starting this website for crocheting the scarves. So, like I said, if you are interested in helping me with this project, please leave a comment and let me know how to get in touch with you. Thank you in advance to those of you that are willing to help me.
